Our current DBA has the idea that if is systems/ops task to install the OS (I agree however he should have kernel parameter input/advice and he doesn't), setup ocfs2 and get it running on all nodes, and in fact the last RAC we (systems/ops) installed the crs and oracle 10g software and all he did was import the database!
So, I have to ask...
As a general consensus when do DBA's take over the install/setup of Oracle normally?
I see most of these tasks being more his realm and due to his training, more his knowlede arena. Thoughts? |

Generally system administrator installs operating system and hardening process. After that he creates oracle user and mount the required mountpoints . after that Oracle DBA is coming in to picture and he start preparation of installing process of Oracle on same server with help of system admin (because root password require for executing rootpre.sh and setting up kernel parameters).

Hi,
In RAC Installation DBA needs support from SA many times but DBA only knows what he actually wants.DBA should come up with good reference documents so he can suggest SA to make necessary changes in System configuration and storage system.
You will get Installation guide for most of the OS from below site.
