Hi Friends,
I need to upgrade an Oracle database in windows OS from 8.1.7 to 10G. Could anyone please give me the procedure for this. Thanks. |

Hi,
You have to download patch from metalink and you have to follow readme
file from this patch.

NO patchset.
you need to install oracle 10g software then you can upgrade your database
you have two choice 1. manually upgrade, 2. dbca or 3.export/import.

Thanks Taj, for the reply. This my first time doing an upgrade could you please tell me which is most preferable? Manual, DBCA or Export/Import??

If database size is small >=1gb or below then use EXPORT/IMPORT.
otherwise I personally refer MANUAL upgrade option becuase we have full control on upgrade process.

Thanks for the quick response Taj, well the database size is about 2.8GB so guess I do a manual upgrade, but I would consider taking a full export also before I do the upgrade. Thanks for the suggestion.
