 Hi,
I am preparing a report on testing performance of a database when database is in archive log mode and when in non archive log mode.
So, if anyone can guide me on that.... What is the difference between the two when for example fragmentation of a database is considered?
I/o is certainly more in case of archival log mode... but i want to know what all are also affected.... any link or any report u have... please do reply back... thanx..

In ARCHIVELOG mode, the database can be completely recovered from both
instance and disk failure. The database can also be backed up while it is open andavailable for use. However, additional administrative operations are required tomaintain the archived redo log.

If the database redo log operates in NOARCHIVELOG mode, then the database can becompletely recovered from instance failure, but not from disk failure. Also, thedatabase can be backed up only while it is completely closed. Because no archived redo log is created, no extra work is required by the database administrator.
