Can any one explain me what are gloabl and local indexes and how they are useful.

Global and Local index is type of partition b-tree index. It is not different. Local partition index is equi-partitioned as partition table. Global doesn't equi-partition.

Just like partitioned tables, partitioned indexes improve manageability, availability, performance, and scalability. They can either be partitioned independently (global indexes) or automatically linked to a table's partitioning method (local indexes)
