first of all dont post the same question more than one..K
1.you can take an export from a database which is located in the windows machine and you can import it in to the linux machine. It will work.
2.you can clone a database from windows platform to linux platform.

Export is the logical backup. It is not dependent on operating system. We can take export of database on any platform and import on any platform. In your case you can take export from linux and import in windows or reverse.
Only export dump (.dmp default extention) you should need to copy to target platform. There is no need to copy all datafiles.
There is another feature called transportable tablespace in export. But it is operating system dependent.
Metadata is the database internal system data dictionary structure and user schema structure.

About METADATA
The word meta comes from the Greek, where it means 'after' or 'beyond'. In epistemology, the prefix meta- is used to mean about (its own category); thus metadata is 'data about the data'.
Metadata (sometimes written 'meta data') are used to facilitate the understanding, characteristics, and management usage of data. The metadata required for effective data management varies with the type of data and context of use. In a library, where the data is the content of the titles stocked, metadata about a title would typically include a description of the content, the author, the publication date and the physical location.
In the context of an information system, where the data is the content of the computer files, metadata about an individual data item would typically include the name of the field and its length. Metadata about a collection of data items, a computer file, might typically include the name of the file, the type of file and the name of the data administrator.
