If there is hard disk crash on target db(prod db), also on rman catalog db
you are left with only backup piece of rman bkp operation
can we recover the oracle db from that? if yes how ?? in 9i also in 10g??

Yes, you can recover your database if you have full restorable backup without RECOVERY CATALOG, that time you have to use CONTROLFILE to metadata information.

yes we can recover,but when i chage the location of the datafiles and the logfiles it is not restoring ?
