 hi all,

we r running two instances of 10.2.0.3.0 on sun 5.10

following are the detailsof instances:

inst1

sga size 4194304000 bytes

DB size 19,656 MB

inst2

sga size 3154116608 bytes

DB size 16,864 MB

the RAM of the server is 32gb and SHMMAX is set to 4gb

the prob is oracle memory utilisation is 100% for the past few days, and i have also checked all the processes

Do we need to increase the size of shmax ?

plz expain?

Sorry to say but we do not directly increase the size of the sga, first we neet to check which process are taking so much memory then check the tables which the process using is having proper indexes. also we have to check the sql statements(regarding sql tuning). So ther are lot of things to check first than to go directly by increasing the size of the sga then if all this is unsussesful then we have to increase the size of sga at the last resource and also check if there are any external processes running on you o/s and check the memory useage of that process. hope this will help u a bit

How many concurrent sessiones are connecting to those database? Where you checked memory utilization 100%? Does your server is being utilized for another applications. Which process was consuming more memory?
