Hi
My database is running in archivelog mode.
my doubt is whether after taking online backup of all the tablespace,we need to maintain all the old archive log files? |

Hi
It is not only the datafiles , you need to take backup of archive redo logs also, whithout which you may not be able to recover your database when need comes.
You can delete Only the archive log files after they are backed up successfully.

Hi Senthil,
You can take online backup iff your database is in archive log mode. As online backup is inconsistent, we need the archive logs to make it consistent till the desired recovery time.
Once you take good online backup you dont need the archive logs which are created before that but certainly you need all the archive logs which are created after the backup.
But it is a best practise to maintain backup of archive logs as the online backup taken can go wrong then we have to apply the logs on previous backup taken.
