If you have a composite index composed of columns a and b (in that order), will it be used if your where clause contains a, b and c (in that order)? My basic question is: do all columns in the where clause have to be in the composite index for the index to be used during execution?

Yes, index should be use in the same order. in A,B and C, index on should be used first.
