Hot backup is always inconsistent. As the db is online when taking backup the db files will not be backed up from same timestamp i.e. the backup will be inconsistent. And as the hot backup is inconsistent, the db has to be in archivelog mode to take the db to consistent level while recovery.

Hi,
You can take the hot backup through archilogs or you can take the table space wise backup. You can 'alter tablespace begin backup..' take the backup of your datafiles adn later 'alter tablespace end backup'
