Hi all,
i am new to oracle.i want to take full database backup on oracle 9i. how can i do? how can i restore the database as it was before? if i restore the db, all the user permissions will be remains or i will have to assign it back. pls solve my problem ASAP. what is RMAN. since i am administrating remote oracle server, is it possible to do backup/restore from client pc using RMAN.

Full database backup can be taken with 3 different methods.
RMAN (Recovery Manager)
Export utility
OS backup (Cold and HOT)
RMAN is the most effecient tool in all avove to take backup. It is easy to setup and you can backup a remote database also.
The esay way to use RMAN is to setup RMAN on the same box where your other database is running.
