I was installing Oracle 10g on a linux Operating system (RHEL 3) and on successfull complete installation i realized that on the root command prompt of a user owning the database, the command SQLPLUS did not execute telling me that that is not a recognized command.
Now this happened when i specified where to install the oracle software i.e in a path with the root directory of /U01/app..... .I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it again. This time i let it installed in the default location whos directory was /home...... and on successful complete installation, i now executed the same command SQLPLUS in the same command prompt and everything was fine.
Now my question is, is there somewhere that has to be confugured to enable this executions of oracle commands. Or is the some statements has to be added to certain file in that linux machine to enable successful execution of these commands after you have specified the path except the default path where to install the oracle software?
Please if this is viable do send me a step by step procedure on how to go about it. Or if there is a path to type for that SQLPLUS command, i Do appreciate.
Please send to email address: tonygys@yahoo.co.uk
Thanks in advance

Hi,
To execute any command line command, we should have that executable file in the path specified. Other wise it will not be recognised by os.

when you installed oracle manually at the first time did you verify the $ORACLE_HOME,$ORACLE_BASE,$PATH,.....I think you forgot one or more of these parameters needed to install oracle on Linux environment.
