How does the parameter REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE work in the init.ora file. What effects does it have on the security. Please clarify for me with details.

if u want to use password file authentication mechanism, then u must define the parameter remote_login_passwordfile=exclusive.

Hi Tony,
There are three values you can set to this parameter.
1. none
2. exclusive
3. shared
If it is set it to none, one can use the operating system authentication. Password file authentication is not used.
If it set it to exclusive, then it become private password file meaning only one instance can use the password file. Here, password file may contain entries for other dba users but at a time only one dba user can connect to database.
If it is set it to shared, then it become public password file. here, more than one instance use use the password file but password file contain only one entry for sys user only. In other word, you can not add users to public password files.
