 :confused: We have an oracle database with following initialisation parameters processes=550 session=610,

All other licensing parameters such as session_max, SESSIONS_WARNING are not set yet!! We ideally want to have more control over this as we have experienced database hanging due to too many users concurrently connecting to the database (and we ended up killing the database instance, we could not even log in as sysdba! to me it seems that database had hanged because of lack of recourses rather than reaching max session)

I understand the way session max and session warning parameters work, but I don’t fully understand the use of processes and sessions parameters, their differences and how to configure them in conjunction with session max and session warning parameters.

I like to set:
SESSIONS_WARNING=450
SESSION_MAX=500

What should I set processes, and sessions to??

2. I also need to write a shell script to make some fake connections to the database only for testing purpose; can someone give me some tips on this one? (Can all connections be initiated with same OS username, DB user and from within the same machine?

3. What if there is only one username in this database (application user), which is making multiple connections to the database? will the above method work or that I will have to control this by setting a new limit on cuncurrent sessions which one user can make ? how?

Thanks
