see this query -
select a.last_name,a.salary,a.department_id,b.maxsal
from employees a,
(select department_id,max(salary) maxsal from employees
group by department_id) b
where a.department_id=b.department_id
and a.salary < b.maxsal;
The where clause of the main query displays info of all the employees
who earn less than the maximum salary in their department. Inline view
(b) is returning the details of all department nos. and the maximum salary of all the departments.
Enjoy.....
