 What is the difference between production database and other databases? What are the different types of databases and diference between them?

please explain

Hi,

Database which is running on Remote server. That is production database.

---- Other Databases

Development database
Testing database

The explanation in the above post is not correct,


As far my knowledge, I'm explaining it,

Take Bank for example,

Production Database:

Consider you are taking some Rs.1000 using ATM of that bank.(The Bank uses a Database to store all details).The ATM will contact the Database and once it confirms that you have enough money in your account, it will give you the amount.

The Database that is used here is called as PRODUCTION Database.
Technically DBA people will call these database as LIVE database also.


Development Database :

Once a new project starts, the developers will a database for their purpose like Design purpose etc.
This database they call it as Development Database.


Testing Database :

As the name descrides this database is used for testing purpose by testing people.

Hi Ratnaker,
I'm talking about this statement only "Database which is running on Remote server. That is production database."

you can be access all type database remotely and not only production database.

For example take two destinations A and B,
all type of databases can be setup at 'A' and they can be accessed remotely from 'B'.
