 Hi,My database is in non archive log mode. I have the backup of all the datafiles, control files and redologs (cold backup). while my instance is running and when i entered some data into a table which is on a particular datafile which is lost physically by some mistake. i issued commit after entering data. when i tried to shut down normally i'm getting
error saying that unable to open the datafile.when i shut the instance forcefully(shut abort) and copied the lost datafile from backup to original location and tried to start the instance media recovery error is coming.what to do in this situation. please help me in his situation.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Only one way ...Restore Last Valid Cold Backup and open your database

Reason: You have ONLY COLD BACKUP and you have to lost all data after last valid backup.

That is why Oracle Corporation Recommeneded : Run Database in ARCHIVE LOG MODE and Do FULL DATABASE RECOVERY.

How to restore
1. shutdown abort;
2. delete all copy of datafiles, redo log files and control files
3. Restore all datafiles,redolog files, ctl files copy from Valid Recent backup.
4. connect to database with SYS USER
5. startup

Regards
Taj

Hello Taj,Thanks for ur reply.But if there are many users who had just done their transactions and for only one datafile do they all need to suffer? Is there any other way for this?
