Hi, i have a little proble about the password file. It have made my database to be in mess in that, i cannot open my database.
This is what happened. Am running oracle on a linux operating system. I tried to open the enterprise manager console and tried to login as normal i.e username: sys, Password: Oracle, as a SYSDBA. It was doing well before. This time its not opening. I try to start it up using that the console and on logging in it refuses.
NB: When in command prompt the database is opening very well and everything is running as usual. I understand that the console uses the password file for authentication and so i decided to shutdown the database and recreate the password file using the orapwd utility and it execute very in the same location where it was and the same name.
Now here comes the mess, that even the database that was running in the command prompt is no longer running and now giving an error that the database cannot be opened due to an invalid password file.
Remember my oracleSID is traindb and the owner is user ORACLE with password ORACLE. I have never recreated the password file before. It was in its default form.
Whaen i recreated it i specified the number of entries being 20 and the password as syspass and now the file to the exact location with the same name as it was.
What should i do. Pliz with all your kind assist.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks very much Taj, You really made my day. All i had to do was to issue the FORCE=Y key word It it was well with me and now tha database is up and running.
Taj, This is how my command was:
In the oracle home inside a folder called dbs
#> orapwd file=orapwtraindb password=oracle entries=10 force=y
Now what happens if i change the password to a different one and try to logging using the old password.
Please explain to me.
