Whenever you perform incomplete recovery or recovery with a backup control file, you must reset the online logs when you open the database. The new version of the reset database is called a new incarnation.

There is something called in Oracle SCN witch must be equal in the control files, database files and the redo logs files when you do an incomplete recovery with reset logs the redo logs files will be reset and cleared (no commit data in them) witch is critical to the incomplete recovery operation
