I am working on an oracle 10G R2 my indexes are growing very fast.If i take them offline delete them and creat new ones will it have any effect on the production database.plse i would like to hear from some one who has had a live experience with this

Recreate index will not help.
you have to rebuild them. (may be your face fragmentation problem)
just create new index tablespace ...and rebuild all indexes to new tablespace will help you out.
