The SGA virtual memory in Oracle is allocated in units called granules. A granule is allocated as a contiguous virtual memory unit, and the number and size of granules are determined at startup. Note that the large pool and Java pools are optional.

A granule is a unit of contiguous virtual memory allocation. The size of a granule depends on the estimeted total SGA size whose calculation is based on the value of the SGA_MAX_SIZE parameter.
4MB if estimeted SGA size is <128MB,
otherwise 16MB
