i hav found it might be the following reason
"Possible causes are file systems that do not support a certain limit (eg. dump file size > 2Gb) or a disk/filesystem that ran out of space."
how to solve this problem

Yes, i'm having enough space,
i had never taken backup on this client machine this is the 1st time.
i had come across such problems many a times, and used to shift backup to other clients.
my server is running on linux and clients are in winxp & win2000

Hi,
You can overcome file size limit by this way
C:\>exp user/pass file=(exp1.dmp,exp2.dmp,exp3.dmp) filesize=1024M
filesize=1000M will create 1GB dump files

It's completely depend upon file system i.e fat16,fat32,NTFS
FAT16 has a 2GB file size limit, FAT32 has 4GB as its limit. And the NTFS file system has a 16 exabytes limit.
