 Hello There ,


Can anyone briefly explain me the minimal parameters required for configuring standby database ? and also please provide me a simple method to handle performance issues .

Hi Paul,

The minimal parameters required to configure a standby database are listed below ,and for basic monitoring of performance you could make use of ASH,AWR,ADDM reports in 10g and statspack in 9i .

fal_client
fal_server
log_archive_dest_1
log_archive_dest_2
remote_archive_enable
local_listener
log_archive_dest_state_1
log_archive_dest_state_2

Addition of above listed parameter set below parameter also
1. db_unique_name
2. service_name
3. remote_login_password
4. standby_file_managment
5. db_file_convert_name / log_file_convert_name
6. log_archive_dest_state_n

and for performance you can figure out
1. sql trace with tkprof utility
2. explain plan
3. autotrace
4. 10046 and 10053 trace event with tkprof utility

I had asked about the minimum configuration ... I know that there are n number of other parameters in standby/dataguard configurations.
