D:\ Oracle software is installed.
E:\ Database is created and C/R/D files are also in E:\
Before creating database, we were having only E:\ ( SAN storage which is configured as RAID 5 )
What is the best way to create database in SAN env? For example, do we have to have C/R/D files in different disc? If so, what is the use?
SAN storage drives are very big in size ( appr 600 GB) and the database C/R/D files are stored on SAN disc. So, i would like to know, is it better to make copy of C/R/D files on another drive. If so, how do i create another SAN drive?
Regards,
Vikhar |

Sizing and tuning the hardware for Oracle is a big discussion.
and for your questions:
>>do we have to have C/R/D files in different disc? If so, what is the use?
>>is it better to make copy of C/R/D files on another drive. If so, how do >>i create another SAN drive?
my questions to you are:
why you want to copy your database?if you want to have aviability you can use, data gaurd or oracle replication.
and if you afraid of losing data you know that RAID 5 already provid fault-tolerance, but only tolerate the loss of one disk drive and have worst write penalty.
but i can give these guidelines:
SAN performance depends on the RAID Configuration.
Vendor based support is cruicial.
Storage protocols.(SCSI, fibre channel, iscsi, s-ata, using block-based storage, linux I/O scheduling, NAS)
Storage Fundamentals.(Disk Drive performance)
and if You are using RAC then RAC I/O characteristics.
Hope this help.
